More Brilliant Aspens

We took a Sunday drive this last weekend to see more of the Aspens changing colors and were not disappointed. There were mountainsides covered with them in shimmering hues of yellow & orange everywhere we looked- even in a little ancient, unkempt graveyard that we passed.

Back to Spain

I'm heading back to Spain tomorrow for the wedding of a friend of mine that's taking place in Portugal. In addition to seeing my friend, which I'm really excited about, I'm looking forward to spending more time photographing the lovely old buildings, wandering the streets of Madrid again on my way through and eating & drinking my way through both countries. It will be a nice cosmopolitan break before heading to Antarctica shortly after I get back.

Tremblings of Fall

Walking through the stands of Aspen trees on my way down from work yesterday was magical with all the trees turning a multitude of fall shades in lime greens, vibrant yellows and mellow oranges. A soft trembling breeze finished off the perfect fall scene. I love watching the delicate Aspen leaves quaking in the wind as if they can hardly contain their excitement for fall.

Skate Park Kicks

This is a little outside of what I normally shoot, but I'm really trying not to limit myself to just shooting my favorite subjects (plants, architecture & bicycles!) so today I rode downtown looking for something new to shoot.  Admittedly, I was hoping to find some pretty fall trees dressed in bright shades of yellow, but there weren't any.

Eventually I ended up at the skate park by Coors Field and hung out with the skaters for a couple of hours. They were all so into practicing their jumps that I don't even think they noticed me.  Except for the little girls, who all moved to the other side of the park when I arrived presumably to keep from getting photographed.

I could watch racing skate boards all day long...  I just wish I could ride like that but I'm not sure my body would survive the learning curve to get there at this point.

First Snow

I love winter, so I'm always really excited about the first snow. Yesterday I hiked solo up to my work site in the mountains and it was covered in bright white snow accompanied by gorgeous views from above the clouds overlooking Boulder.

I love seeing the last little lingering alpine flowers, that you think would be so frail, peeking out of the snow in defiance as if to remind winter that it's not quite time yet... but soon.

Chuck's Weather

Give me a gray, chilly, overcast day and I'm a happy girl. And it's finally cool enough to bust out my favorite chucks. A perfect day in Denver!

White Monkshood

Last of the Summer Light...

The light-filled party called summer will soon be over and winter will be here before you know it.  I'm a big fan of winter and all that it brings- snow, soft morning light and chilly temperatures.  But I will miss the flowers of summer and the summer glow that makes them shine.

52 Saturdays 2011- Rooftop Espresso

This weekend we biked to downtown Denver and stayed at the old Brown Palace Hotel to celebrate hubdude's birthday and the wedding of some good friends.  Our first stop on Saturday was the Museum of Contemporary Art where we had wine & coffee on the rooftop patio.
