These small planes are used for flying all around Antarctica. This particular one is based at South Pole and flies from here out to the field camps that are within several hundred miles.

It's hard to believe that 2011 has already come &amp; gone. For me, it was a year of reaching life goals, pursuing photography, getting back to some writing and making new friends. They came with 8 of these huge tractors and made the trip in 29 days.

The first thing to go was this huge hibiscus which is now sitting in a bucket in the hallway. I can't bear the thought of them all being thrown away....

A perfect night for taking photos and skiing. The beautiful light here never ceases to amaze me and while there is a bit of junk around the station, I do love that most of it is so colorful. And never a place without a sense of humor, we now have our own 'Spool Henge'.

The outside of the building was this really beautiful, serene place. Then you step through the entrance and bones everywhere! For the most part, this somewhat desolate place is flat, white and without color. Many days there is not even a horizon on which to settle your eyes, for the gray sky simply blends into snow. 


But thankfully we have a small hydroponic greenhouse. A heavenly little place to poke around. I haven't slept much at South Pole, generally only 2-3 hours a night since I arrived here last week. While this isn’t ideal for functioning during the day, it does allow me lots of time to traipse the halls &amp; rooms of the station taking photos and exploring without anyone around at night.

These works of graffiti and urban art are mostly from
Lisbon, Portugal with a couple from Madrid, Spain I think. They all sort of
mesh together in my mind now that I’ve been back for a month.  



I have a thing for graffiti. Not the crappy tags that I see
in my neighborhood in Denver but artistic graffiti that’s colorful, makes a
statement or generally puts a smile on my face. On the edge of the little town there is a small university with grounds that are more like a large public garden. Many older people seemed to be taking their daily walk or resting on the benches in the shade. My favorite part were the peacocks trotting around everywhere. There were dozens of them nipping at the ground.

One of the places I didn't get to during my June trip to Spain was the Madrid botanic gardens, which had been at the top of my list of places to go. I was determined not to miss it on this return trip.

On my first full day in Lisbon, a few of us went to Sintra, which is a tiny little town just outside of Lisbon, to see the Pena National Palace, which looks like a little castle.  I've never seen such a lively, colorful palace before and would like to have spent many more hours wandering through it.

A soft trembling breeze finished off the perfect fall scene. I love watching the delicate Aspen leaves quaking in the wind as if they can hardly contain their excitement for fall.

Yesterday I hiked solo up to my work site in the mountains and it was covered in bright white snow accompanied by gorgeous views from above the clouds overlooking Boulder.

This weekend we biked to downtown Denver and stayed at the old Brown Palace Hotel to celebrate hubdude's birthday and the wedding of some good friends.  Our first stop on Saturday was the Museum of Contemporary Art where we had wine &amp; coffee on the rooftop patio.

I got this BioFlex a few months ago and promptly turned it into a linocut.  It's one of my favorite prints and maybe just the start of a series of linocuts of all my favorite vintage cameras.  It's a large camera- much bigger than an Argus Seventy-Five so it looks a lot like a toy.

Approximately 3,000 postage stamps later (mostly vintage from about 30 different countries)  the great bike collage project of 2011 is finally done.  Admittedly, it's a bit overly pink, but I love it anyway.  I've been wanting to do some larger projects and this fit the bill perfectly.
