Spain Trains

Toledo Train Station

Well, not trains exactly but train stations. While in Madrid I made a quick trip to Toledo, an ancient town that's just a quick train trip away from Madrid. These are from the little train station in Toledo and the main train station in Madrid. Both were really beautiful buildings with great architectural lines, windows & floors. I would like to be on train traveling somewhere today...

I haven't had much time to be out & about shooting at South Pole yet, but hopefully tomorrow.

Happy Friday!

Dahlia Fest

These are a few more dahlia photos taken in the Madrid Botanic Gardens. I spent nearly a whole day there and several hours just in the dahlia flower beds. They had an incredibly varied collection with the most brilliant colors. Dahlias will definitely be on my garden list for next year....

Real Jardín Botánico of Madrid

One of the places I didn't get to during my June trip to Spain was the Madrid botanic gardens, which had been at the top of my list of places to go. I was determined not to miss it on this return trip.

I arrived late in the morning on a cloudy day expecting to stay for an hour or two but it was such a lovely place, I couldn't tear myself away. I wandered the shady lanes taking photos for more than 6 hours. A blissful, restful day that could not have been more perfect. The temperature was perfectly cool, the skies were gray but not threatening and the dahlias were in full and perfect bloom. Even the squirrels were excited, running here & there, chattering loudly while dropping acorn tops on my head...

Seville- Oranges, Horses & Stripes Oh My

I'm heading back to Spain and Portugal at the end of September and looking forward to taking a lot more photos.  Until then, I'm still enjoying working through the loads of photos I took on my trip last month.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

Lights of Spain...

While in Spain & Morocco I shot a lot of the old ornate street lamp posts, outdoor wall lamps and a few of the intricate lamps found in the buildings of Morocco.  I love to shoot street lamps so it was a pleasant surprise to find some many on our trip.

Have a great weekend!

Civilized Protest

In keeping with my Spain theme for the week...  These are photos I took in Madrid a couple of weeks ago. The protests were (and are) still going on when we arrived with the main square in Madrid being full of tents and daily speeches.  It was all very civilized.  At the first speech that we heard everyone was waving flowers in lieu of clapping and at some of the other speeches we saw the crowds would quietly wiggle their hands in the air instead of clapping.  That sort of reserve could never be found in this country with our loud opinions and love of clapping but it was fun to watch.

While traveling throughout Spain we saw similar protests and smaller tent cities in nearly every city that we visited.
